Celebrating all things maple with sweet and savoury treats

Delicious, versatile maple syrup a healthier indulgence!

Visiting a sugar shack is one of my favourite early spring rituals. I’ve been infatuated with maple syrup my whole life because of its delicious taste, but now I appreciate it even more since I’ve learned that as sugars go, it’s one of the good ones! You probably know all sugars are not created equal. The short story: similar to the way whole grains are better for us than their refined cousins, unrefined natural sweeteners like maple syrup and honey contain higher levels of beneficial nutrients, antioxidants and enzymes compared to white table sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Of course it’s a good idea to enjoy maple syrup in moderation (unless we’re talking about maple taffy on snow, in which case, good luck trying to hold me back). Maple syrup is my go-to sweetener for loads of purposes including as a glaze on meat and fish, to balance the flavour of salad dressings, to perk up baked goods and more. To celebrate maple season, here’s a roundup of some of my favourite recipes; click on the titles to access each one. There are many more sources of maple inspiration to be found on this site via the search facility. Click here to see a video segment on CTV Morning Live where I showcased these recipes. Happy spring!
