Absolute deliciousness and total relaxation await!
With so many locations in Canada and across the globe that I am eager to visit for the first time, it surprises me a little when I find myself drawn back, repeatedly, to certain places. Terre et Neige, a tranquil woodland escape located near Val des Monts, Quebec (under an hour’s drive from Ottawa), is one such spot. This year marked our fourth – and definitely not our last – visit. If you are looking for the perfect gift for yourself or to enjoy with your partner/bestie, I highly encourage you to learn more on their website and make a booking soon (spots fill up quickly year-round with many visitors from near and far returning annually). I’m quite certain you’ll have zero regrets and will come away feeling completetly rejuvenated, with lasting memories of this magical place. Below are five reasons that make Terre et Neige an ideal getaway spot.

1. The cabins
We love the modern, minimalist A-frame cabin for its layout and location, just a short walk through the woods from the parking and reception area. From the warming woodstove to the compact but highly functional kitchen to the comfy bed and deluxe ensuite, it offers both luxury and simplicity, not to mention gorgeous views of the forest from its many windows. The similarly-equipped C2 cabin, with its cozy sleeping loft, is situated nearby and C3, the off-grid cabin (available from spring through autumn), is located lakeside, accesible via the 1.5 km walking trail.

2. The setting
Nestled among an old forest filled with diverse species of trees and abundant wildlife, the 75 acre Terre et Neige property is a natural paradise. A rambling trail leads you through the woods, past towering granite ridges and majestic trees, to the beautiful Lac du Castor (swimmable in season). Whether you hike or snowshoe on the property, your eyes will feast on the beauty that surrounds you.

3. The food
Speaking of feasting, the food at Terre et Neige is second to none. As the host of a TV cooking show, I feel confident saying that we eat *really* well at home, and yet my husband consistently describes co-owner/chef Julia as running “his favourite restaurant in the world”. All offerings from her kitchen are seasonally inspired and prepared almost exclusively with hyper-local ingredients. Delectable breakfast baskets are delivered to your door in the morning, brimming with piping hot coffee, fresh baked goods and more. Multi-course gourmet dinner baskets are available as option, packaged up for you to collect and reheat at your leisure.

4. The outdoor amenities
Everything at Terre et Neige is built to support leisure. From the wood-fired outdoor tub where you can soak in peace under the sun or stars to the fire pit to the picnic table, you can relax outdoors just as easily as inside. Snowshoes are provided for winter stays.

5. The total peace and quiet
During our multiple visits to Terre et Neige, we’ve consistently commented on the blissfull hush that envelops you the minute you arrive at the property. Owls hoot gently in the distance, dry leaves rustle on branches and the wind whistles through the treetops. Add the crackle and hiss of the fire in the woodstove and it’s a symphony of relaxing sounds.
